After completing this activity, participants should be able to

• List symptoms that may occur sporadically as warnings of early MS
• List conditions that may be confused with early MS
• Explain the types of tests that are done to confirm an MS diagnosis
• Provide a rationale for diagnosing and treating MS early
• Suggest therapies that might be used early in the course of MS to help to reduce severity and slow long-term progression
• Explain when referral to a neurologist is appropriate
